Broken String Biosciences

Delivering on the promise of gene editing

Broken String Cambridge IndependentWe're delighted to be working in partnership with Cambridge-based Broken String Biosciences, a pioneering high-growth biotechnology business that has the potential to unlock life-saving therapies for patients that are safer by design.

Broken String was co-founded by Felix Dobbs, Simon Reed, Simon Kerr and Patrick van Eijk in 2021 and secured a six-month residency in the highly competitive Illumina Accelerator based at Granta Park Cambridge. Broken String raised its first institutional seed financing in September 2021 and has subsequently generated rapid revenue growth from partnerships with cell and gene therapy companies based in Europe and the US. Broken String announced further funding in its Series A round in September 2023 and has raised a total of USD20m to date. The company has offices at the world-renowned Wellcome Genome Campus where the job-holder will be based, and also has laboratory space at Chesterford Research Park.

Headcount has doubled since the Series A financing and is now at 29 employees. With this rapid growth, the business is at a pivotal point in our journey and is excited to be hiring its first full-time financial controller to build a first-class back-office function and oversee the company’s finances. The successful applicant will work closely with the company’s senior management team to execute our exciting plans for future development and growth.
